Anyone from Michigan?

Post by Old Shatterhand »

Yesterday I was sorting papers and documents, and found a note about my Win #88. It is said to have been bought at North Gate Sports in Michigan 1972 or 1973. Is the shop still there?

Just for my curiosity. :)

Regards,

No, I haven't the slightest idea of which city it could be. :(

I bought the rifle from a shop in the neighbourhood of Gothenburg three years ago, and the seller told that the previous owner had bought it in Michigan in that shop. It would be fun to track the rifle backwards.

Very kind of you to ask!

Sounds familiar. I was born there but left after college to find a job. I have only visited Michigan a dozen times over the last 30 years.

Great state, but the economy is/was driving folks away.

I have to admit I have been thinking about retirement up in the UP or around TC in the next 10 years or so though.

I am from Michigan and when I first read this I was thinking
that Northgate would be somewhere near Clare Michigan.
Because that is considered the Gate way to the North of Michigan.
What I found was this.

Northgate Army Surplus and Sports
3905 E Colonville Rd
Clare, Mi 48617 Tel. 800 438-4867

Hope this helps :?:

I lived 45 minutes south of Claire for about 8 years (1988 ~ 1996). I'm surprised it would survive, since "Jay's Sporting Goods" is in Claire, and one of the biggest gun stores in all of Michigan!

hunted around there for many years too. Always had to make a trip to Jay's before the trip home.

I live 45 minutes east of Clare in Bay City......there was as I recall a Northgate (or something similar sounding) gun shop up in Oscoda but it closed when the air base was shut down.

Geez that must have been 20 years ago.

Just realized I misspelled "Clare" with "Claire". Yes, I've been away for a while! :D

Born near Benton Harbor- St Joe... lots of relatives in that area. Moved away....was back for a couple of years and took a job in Midland, was there for nearly 9 years.

Been to Jays in Clare often...never heard of the other place.

Gardiner's in Benton Harbor used to be the place...closed for years now.

Moved to Oklahoma last fall... couldnt bear to watch the Granholm train wreck
