Re: JES Rifle Reboring
Correct. I asked the same thing a couple/few months ago.
I called and left a message and he returned my call within just a couple of hours (if that long). The project I had planned never happened so I can't comment on his work first hand but I can say that I do not ever recall hearing or reading of anyone dissatisfied with him or his work.

Nothing so needs reforming as other people's habits.

I left him a message, he called me right back and we had a great talk. Very nice guy! The two rifles go out tomorrow. He said the turn around is currently a week!!!! (I asked him why so long..... )

I am very satisfed with the Winchester 94 that he did, a great shooting 38-55.

My 1893 Marlin is in UPS on its way to Oregon!
Re: JES Rifle Reboring
Can you (or I) ship complete rifle directly y\to his shop, or does it have to go through an FFL? You are making me want to send in my M94 Classic for a rebore to 38-55.rbertalotto wrote:My 1893 Marlin is in UPS on its way to Oregon!
Re: JES Rifle Reboring
I wonder if .243 Win. to .260 Rem. is do-able?
Re: JES Rifle Reboring
Have no qualms about entrusting your gun to JES. I sent him a 1930 vintage '94 carbine in .30 WCF with a bad bore, and had him do a rebore to .38-55. It was less than a two-week turn-around and the job was perfect! It shoots cast bullets like a good .38-55 should. His prices are more than reasonable in this day and age. I can't praise his work more highly.

Re: JES Rifle Reboring
I removed the stock and forearm wood and removed the magazine tube and the sights, packed it up and took it to UPS. Insured it for $600, wrote on the shipping form "Rifle Parts" and shipped it. It is perfectly legal to ship a firearm to a gunsmith for work and he can ship it right back to your home address......Easy -Peasy!

Thanks, what I wanted to know.

Re: JES Rifle Reboring
My son sent the rifle complete, Jes shot to make sure it was ok. I am well pleased with the work.

Re: JES Rifle Reboring
I have a question for twodot: You said you had a 30-30 rebored to 356. Is the standard 94 action strong enough to handle it? Just curious because I was always under the impression the Big Bore receiver was hatched for that reason.

To clarify, my levergun is a Marlin.kaschi wrote:I have a question for twodot: You said you had a 30-30 rebored to 356. Is the standard 94 action strong enough to handle it? Just curious because I was always under the impression the Big Bore receiver was hatched for that reason.
Last time I checked JES would only rebore '94 Winchesters from 30-30 to 38-55.

.243 to .260 Rem............ is it do-able?
Re: JES Rifle Reboring
I believe so, but not by JES as I think his smallest caliber is .338"

Thunder 50,
Thank you for your response, I thought a high pressure cartridge would have different parmeters.

JES says inquire about anything not listed, so he might. I wrote him with my project idea and he answered in the affirmative.Mescalero wrote:I wonder if .243 Win. to .260 Rem. is do-able?
If he's not going to do .243 to .260 he'll be missing out on a lot of business.

Re: JES Rifle Reboring
I also had very good results using JES. My M36 Marlin came back as a 38-55 and it shoots cast bullets under 2 MOA consistently using a receiver sight. Quick turn around and excellent work seems to be the norm with them.
If you want to go from .243 to .260, one option would be Classic Barrel Works. I had them rebore and rechamber an old beat up, inaccurate M600 .222 Rem to 7mmTCU. Turn around was not nearly as quick, and the price was a little higher, but they did good work.

Re: JES Rifle Reboring
I had Clearwater Reboring do one of my rifles. They did an excellent job, just took alot longer than Jesse, and were higher.
Call Jesse about the 243 to 260 and ask him. Then let us know what he said please
