Turnbull restoration on the local news

Post by engravertom »

Hi guys,

Thought you might like to see this

http://www.10nbc.com/

A gun friendly news bit on network TV. At least it wasn't negative!

Click on the "Bloomfield gun shop" when it comes up on the video screen. Don't know how long it will be there.

take care,

Tom

Here's a direct link to the article, perhaps it will last longer than the link on the front page...

Danged computer filters here at work. "Websense" don't make no sense to me at all. Comes up as "entertainment". I think this is going to be an issue at the next Teamster contract.--------Sixgun

Drool Alert!!

Just as soon as I win the lottery, I'm sending some work their way.

Seriously,
You guys do great work Tom. I've always admired the attention to detail and craftsmanship at Turnbull.

About 45 years ago, my dad gave me his model 71, long tang deluxe. Unfortunately it had a side mounted Weaver 330 scope on it, holes drilled to accomodate mounts. In 1975 I took it (ignorantly then) into a gun shop in So. Calif. that did restore work, they said "no problem", the holes can be welded up, and with re-blueing it will be like new. They retraced the checkering, welded, re-blued, and I got it back. It did look nice.Problem was and still is, the spots where they welded it did not take the blueing the same as the surrounding metal, it's not horrible ugly, but it bugs me. I wish I had simply put a couple screws in the holes and left the whole works alone. I just wonder if ol' Turnbull could still save this elegant old rifle that has killed tons of Mulees, one elk, and one big squirrel I blasted with it once. Probably should send it to them or contact them with the problem. Bruce

when we fill holes in rifles like that, we recommend case coloring for that very reason. The welding blends in much better that way.

take care,

Or you could have the receiver rust blued, which wont show the difference in metallurgy like hot bluing does.
