Pics of 1895 .405s

Post by crs »

Rather messy weather here in Dallas today ( rain, then sleet, now snow) so it is a good day to stay inside I thought a couple pics of my 95s might cheer me up and maybe some of you also. They are a Deluxe and a takedown, both in .405 Win. I shot the TD a bit recently and must complement the original owner for his sight allignment. From 100 yards I has all three from the car hood into the 12 inch black bullseye and 2 of 3 shooting offhand into the black. I am really looking forward to some better weather so I can get to the range for some 50, 100, 150, and 200 yard shooting. This looks like a real shooter!

Very Nice!!

Always wanted to shoot a 405. My 35 WCF has a pretty good kick to it but my 7.62 Russian Musket hurts after a few rounds because of the narrow metal plate.

Gonna have to get a 405!

Nice rifles crs. I like the .405 myself. Ever take on any really large, potentially dangerous game with yours? Thanks. 1886.

jason- Those original, older M-95's kick like crazy - due to antiquated stock design/drop, lightweight wood, and hard buttplates.

The Miroku .405's aren't bad, at all - since the stock has less drop/felt recoil, the forend's beefier (giving the shooter a better grip), and even the flat steel BP's wider than on the original, spreading the load.

A Miroku .405'll prolly feel better than that .35 WCF.

Personally, I like my shooting original although the original shotgun buttstock was modified when I got it, so I ordered an original replacement crescent '95 stock from Bishops back years ago and fit it to this rifle. Recoil is negligible even with a 300gr bullet at 2100 fps. But I also don't use 3031, but use 4064 instead. I really think that using 3031 increases felt recoil in a couple of my rifles.

If I had to get rid of every rifle..this would be the last to go. All '95's are special in my opinion...

Pete is right, the Mirokus do seem to handle recoil much better. A friend and I went through 100 rounds blasting p-dogs from a sitting position, with no ill affects to either of us. I've been slapped by my 86EL far worse than the 405 with factory loads.

I agree with Leverluver on getting slapped by a 1886 EL. WE shot both last Saturday and the .45-70 405 gr bullet at 2100 + fps made the EL jump more tha the factory 300 gr .405 at 2250 fps; seemed that way to me anyhow. Both were fun to shoot though.

I have not had a chance to hunt with the . 405, so may have to go shoot a hog rather than wait till next fall.

I did some tests with a 95 chambered in 411 Hawk with a 300 grain doing 2550fps and at that time, it didn't even have a forearm on it. Couldn't hang on to the dang thing. The ouch pendulum swung the other way.
