Y2K started high school this fall, and started Marine Corp Jr. ROTC as well.

I am sure all of my US Army ancestors are spinning in their graves!

Well, here's something to get you started, although he's a bit young for boot camp.

I was Army. If he wants to be Marine JROTC, it could be good for him. I am not against the MusclesAreRequiredIntelligenceNotEssential Corps. I will support them all the way, but I will still pick on them. If they want to pick back, go ahead.

1st, congratulations.

now get ready for fund raisers, competition weekends and parades.
he will have to choose which unit to march with rotc or bsa.

hope he hangs with the boyscouts long enough to eagle.

mine did both afjrotc and bsa, with varsity wrestling thrown in the mix
lots of scheduling conflicts but doable, with an understanding sergeant.
careful what you wish for, you might just get it.

successful completion of a JROTC program used to mean he can join as an E-3 instead of an E-1 if he goes in without extra schoolin' --- collegiate level ROTC programs are where you get the butter bars

Exactly. I was fortunate enough to attend a party Friday night for one of our Eagle Scouts who graduated last May, enlisted, and just graduated from Marine Corp basic training. A second Eagle Scout, who graduated the year before, also joined the Corp, and attended. It was great to see them both. The first one put on 25 pounds during basic! That has to be a first!!! Y2K was very happy to see them both, as he'd always looked up to them. They loved knowing he started MC JROTC - a program they both completed in high school.
