I'm proud to be old fashioned, but.........
Here in eastern Ohio the power has been down for a couple of days due to the big storms that went through. Power company says maybe a week before it's back up. No problem. I've been doing thing "cordless" for a long time. So her I sit with my coleman stove, camping coffee pot, drinking my morning coffee at the picnic table on the front porch, reading and posting on the net with the wireless laptop and the modem on an inverter hooked to a trolling battery. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeell, maybe some of this new fangled lectrical stuff ain,t so bad. I got to listen to Pitchy on the harp again.
Thanks, Bro.

Short outages are inconvenient... but can be fun IF you know how to cope. But for longer terms, especially in the heat of summer and cold of winter: (pic is a link to Honda's sire)

I have mine w/wheel and electric start kits. It ain't big enough to run the house a/c, but it will run the whole house attic fan, refrigerator(s) tv, computer stuff and a few lights.
I initially bought a 3500W model for my travel trailer... but it wouldn't handle the start up drain for the A/C, so the dealer (who assured me it would), gave full value in trade for the 5500W I have. Purchased new in 1988, it's still in great shape, and handles whatever I "need"!
I've even put it on the little trailer w/the old (read 1950's) Craftsman arc welder and used it as a portable welder to repair gates and such in the barn and pastures. One of the very few investments I've made that every time I use it, I dislocate my shoulder pattin' myself on the back!!!

Sounds like you are enjoying yourself! I'd like to listen to Pitchy's playing too but I'm having problems with photobucket. Can't seem to get the video. Getting a new computer later in the week so maybe I can see and listen to Pitchy then.

Hang in there. We had a similar event in 2003. We did not have power for 30 days. Hopefully yours will be back on long before that. Sounds like you have it under control though.

Re: I'm proud to be old fashioned, but.........
Day six. We have a 220 generator now that a friend lent us. He said he has only used it twice so I can keep it till this all passes. I asked him if he wanted to sell it. He didn't say no, only that he had to ask Mama. Fingers crossed. He's got a boat project that he needs some funds for so this could be a win, win for both of us. Any how, we were able to take showers last night and ran the AC in the bedroom for a few hours. I finally got a half decent nights sleep. Freezer is still froze and the fridge is still fridging so no worries at this point. Cool thing is the bike is cordless and I feel a ride coming. Later.

Eight years ago, I bought an unused 4.5KW Coleman genny for $500 from a friend who was moving to Fla, and had never even started it up in the 6 years since he bought it in a pre-hurricane panic.
I always add stabilizer to the "kept full" gas tank, start it & let it run for a few mins at least once/month, and have had to call on it only 4 times in need (once for 3 days).
It's one of the few investments (security blanket) that I'm glad I didn't postpone.

I can remeber many times growing up in the NW where Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner was cooked on the wood stove becuase the power has been out for a week. To add insult to injury, my mother still lives out too far for Cable TV or Netflix.
