The photo isn't detailed or big enough for me to see with certainty but I think that it is a special order gun with pistol grip and a folded down tang peep that has had some damage and has a wrap. But I can't tell for certain.

Hobie

It appears to be a TD Winchester 94 and had the wrist taken down on top and a pistol grip added and the lever reshaped. It doesn't appear to be curved, but just at an steeper angle than is normal.

Cropped and rotated it's a little easier to see:

Hobie I think you are right about the stock repair and sight. Is that a
Sh???en stock,must have been a special order rifle and is it a 76,86, or 94 ?
Rangerider7 is he a ranger from the southwest?

JMO, but it looks to me like a special order, half-mag, pistol-grip stock with the optional Scheutzen buttplate, that has a folded tang peep sight lying along the top tang.

It looks like a pistol gripped 1894 rifle with other special order features, and a folded tang sight. The pistol grips on the early rifles were not as tight as the modern ones.

This is the best I could do Griff. It doesn't help much. I don't know anything about the photo but that it is titled "Mexican Cowboy".

The more I look at it after Griff did the magic (I was too lazy to do) I think the angle is distorting the pistol grip and there is a tang sight on that 94 but nothing wrong with it. Might be the Schutzen butt but (I love double buts...) it doesn't have the ball ends...

that guy has pretty big hands
if you look at the fore-end it look like it is built up some also
he could have cut and fit the back of a stock to look like
a 92's. and the piece of metal he fashioned was probably about this shape to begin with, this type of stuff is not uncommon,

cowboys and time on their hands.
