Single Six base pin question (or, did I break it for good?)

At the range today I was shooting shorts out of my SS (and having scads of fun ) when I got a very weak report from the last round in the cylinder. I pulled the cylinder to verify the slug left the barrel and while juggling things I dropped the base pin. The little spring and nipple came out of the base pin.

I put it all back together and reassembled the SS but did not fire it anymore since I was done for the day anyway. Cycling by hand didn't show any issues but I'm curious if I should loctite/JB Weld/braze/etc the nipple and spring back in or just replace it all together? I don't want to spend any money iffn's I don't have to...

The base pin is not an expensive part.
I would just buy a new one. It is very unusual for one to fail so the new one should work about forever.
A phone call to Ruger should get you a new one in a few days.

When you call for the part they will want your serial # to make sure that you get the correct part.

I thought about the Belt Mountain base pin but:

I don't want to spend any money iffn's I don't have to...

The original was working just fine until some klutz got ham handed with it...

Had to do that on my Super Blackhawk, as the pin, even after a stronger spring in the plunger/retainer, still walked out of place. The Belt Mountain one has been great.

surprised to hear that you had a basepin malfunction...i have an old model single-six (9/1958) and i've owned newer ones and never had any issues like that--go to midway and buy another... $5.89 ... :)

The Old Model Single-Six's base pins don't have the spring-loaded plunger needed to activate the New Model's transfer bar - in fact, OM's don't have a transfer bar, unless they've been factory upgraded.

I'd recommend spending the $25 for the Belt Mountain pin, too.

What with all the different base pin head styles available for the same price - it can be Christmas in June ! .

The Single Six has zero recoil to annoy a basepin.

Hmmm, interesting. This is an OM (3 screw, no transfer bar) but the base pin has the spring loaded plunger so I have to, ahem, assume ( ) it's been swapped at some point.

If no transfer bar means no need for the plunger, I'll either just stake it or try loctite, etc. Like Blaine said, there's no recoil to worry about. My concern was in regards to it coming apart during firing and jamming up the works.
