See, I told you I'd have lever gun stuff in the near future

Yeah, the guy indicates he received a handful of lowball offers and I figured the extra $50 (now $40 since its easier to pull from an ATM) would give him incentive to consider me over other potentially more convenient offers. Besides, with the scope, sling and a handful of rounds, it's really pretty decent even at $450. I'll post the results hereOld Ironsights wrote:My first Lever was a borrowed 99E. Decent price too. If you think that throwing in the extra $50 bribe will help in future transactions, go for it and consider it a "deposit".
I'm not seeing one anywhere near the lever. Where would I be looking in respect to this picture? Wait, under the wood?Old Ironsights wrote:According to Murray:
Savage 99E (Economy) 1960-1984.
Pressed checkering introduced in 1966 until Monte Carlo stock in 1981.
Your recoil pad and barrel mount sling ring is aftermarket.
Between 1949 and 1972 all 99s have a small stamp on the front of the lever boss just above the link pin. It will be a small circle or oval with one or two numbers and a letter. The letter corresponds to the date of manufacture. An "A" code is 1949. A "V" code (like mine) is 1968. A "Z" is 1972. "O" and "Q" were not used because of possible confusion/punch wear.
See the bit that comes down from the receiver that holds the lever pivot screw (link pin)? That's the Lever Boss.Panzercat wrote:I'm not seeing one anywhere near the lever. Where would I be looking in respect to this picture? Wait, under the wood?Old Ironsights wrote:According to Murray:

Stock seems to have some wiggle against the reciever. Will have to find a way to tighten that.
Well, if it's not there, it's a Post '72 gun. That's about all I can say...Panzercat wrote:I thought I was looking in the right area. Nothing on the boss lever. As for the other stuff, SN is stamped on the left side of the receiver toward the bottom middle; B800xxx. The barrel roll says "Savage 99E Series A CAL .308 WIN." Under that, "Westfield, Mass. U.S.A."
And thanks for the help
