Shipping ammo

Post by bsaride »

I have made a deal to send out some ammo and reloading dies.
What I need to know is what is the right/best way to ship the ammo
amd/or primed cases? I also have bullets, cases and dies to ship.

Here is what I think:

1. Dies, bullets, cases in a bulk rate box.
2. Ammo and primed cases (if necessary) in a seperate box
(can this be a bulk rate box with proper marking? ORD-M I think).

bsaride, the live ammo will need to be shipped UPS or fedex(maybe, don't use em myself) and marked ORM-D.
Get ready for sticker shock though,I shipped 420 rnds. of .308 today and it was 52 bucks from AR to WA.

Ok, good, got that figured out (only shipping 51 rnds).
What about the primed cases? Can they be shipped
without the marking with the dies etc?

Thanks,

I was kind of wondering the same thing...

I've shipped ammo in OEM boxes with no problem, but I have 2000 BULK rounds of .40 S&W 180gr hollowpoints (speer gold dot) that I'm selling... and all I have to ship it in is the MTM ammo can it's in...

I know the weight fee will suck, but I don't know if I can ship them "loose" in the can (even with compression packing over them)...

Hmmm......

Anyone buy the Cabela's bulk ammo?
I think it's sold in a plastic ammo can.

Ship it UPS Ground or Fedex Ground. Put everything in one box - it will cost you more to break up the shipment. Pack it well in the smallest box it will all fit in with adequate packing material. Mark the box

ORM-D Small Arms Ammunition

and you are good to go. I've done it plenty of times. No extra fees, but ammo gets heavy in a hurry.

Again, since you are already having to ship the ammo UPS, no sense in shipping the other stuff in a Priority Mail Flat Rate box.

I've bought a bunch that way.

THe ammo comes in regular boxes of 50 or (for .22) Bricks, and the empty MTM ammo can comes along side of the ammo in a big box.

Dumbest shipping thing I've ever seen, but that's how they do it.
