Isn't it great the things you learn on this fine forum. I didn't know they had rodeo back east there.

I'd hazard to guess there are more horses in NY than in Oregon, and I KNOW a horse doesn't know where he lives, and most cowboys are a mite confused about what century it is. Yep, there is plenty of rodeo "back east". :)

Happy Birthday!

When I hear "cowboys" and "Jackson" in the same sentence, I think Jackson Wyoming. Not Mississippi. Must be that Colorado thing. :D

Thanks. Lots of rodeos here in the SOUTHeast. One day I would love to try team roping with my son. We have a ways to go with our horsemanship still though. It's been a fun weekend. Enjoyed a cattle show and auction today also. Maybe next time we will bid.

With the exceptions of Texas, California, Colorado, and Montana, most western states are more hat than cattle. http://www.cattlerange.com/cattle-graph ... mbers.html

When I was still able to keep horses and ride I really enjoyed team penning. My colt was getting real cowie and working good when I had to quit, I think you and your son would enjoy it.

Rodeo is big in Mississippi. The Dixie National is one of, if not the, biggest rodeo in the eastern U.S.

I have before but its been a while. I was talking to my cousin who lives in Niceville, Fl. and I think he said a PBR event goes somewhere in that area. Not sure if he said Pensacola, or Destin area or somewhere else but he talked about going recently.

Two of the biggest rodeos in this area are the Silver Spurs Rodeo in Kissimmee and on the 4th of July Arcadia has the All Florida Championship Rodeo which is billed as "the grand daddy of them all."

If you'll check your history you'll find that the cattle industry started right here in Florida when Cortez and DeSoto brought cattle to North America in 1521.

Nice. I may look some of those up. We are going to a smaller local Rodeo this Friday in Hattisburg, Ms. and thinking about going to Houston soon to their big one.

Rusty is right about central Florida and cattle. My family lived in Arcadia during the War, we moved from there in 1946. My dad and brother both worked on ranches during that time. The 4th of July Rodeo in Arcadia was the biggest thing in the state at that time. About once a month the Army brought in truck loads of Cavalry horses for sale, that was a big thing for us kids to watch.
