Puma 44 Mag with oversize bore?

Hi all,

I found a used .44 carbine on sale over internet and was worried about getting one of the ones with an oversized bore that I have read about. Since I can't measure this ahead of time, does anyone know how to avoid this with maybe a serial number range or other markings that may be on the gun like manufacture's model or name or ?

forgive me for this response, but I wouldn't buy something unless I can first see it, especially if you're worried about bore size--I know that's cheap rhetoric... :)

I think NKJ on this forum has posted on that topic at one point, and maybe mentioned years that it was a problem...

If you cast your own bullets it's not a problem, I think LBT or RD has a mold specifically for that. If you reload, you can buy bullets from several makers up to .432". But you can't shoot them in your M29 Smith!

If you could ask the seller to slug the barrel, that would be a plus. Or maybe have him use a dial caliper in the muzzle.

If you are not willing to cast or reload or have two different ammos, pass on it. Don't take the risk. A bargain aint a bargain if you won't shoot it and love it.
