That which does not kill me has made a grave tactical error.

Is it really a Winchester without Winchester stamped on the upper tang? Did Winchester offer their 30-30 with a Marbles front sight? Maybe it's a Sears with a cut down barrel?

I think he's about 7K high for an opening bid IMHO.

The seller also has a take-down and a short-rifle that looks to be a cut down 1894. On the topic at hand, I zoomed in on the barrel and .30 WCF is legible. However, the location of the barrel band and front sight do not appear to be original. As if the smith patterned the gun after one with screw-on sights, the barrel band should have been located farther forward. To the seller's credit, on the cut down rifle he states he cannot verify original parts and plainly stated that the wood is not original. In my judgement the rifle has been "redone". Item #'s 267984591, 267985285.

Junk------------ Junk is junk and always will be junk---not to mention the fraud/misrepresentation issue. The Winchester logo was discontinued after the last of the pre-war guns so that part is right. A 1949 gun is not supposed to have the logo. The barrel on this thing was lopped off 4 inches and a dovetail filed in. I could do that job in a couple of hours.

Lets just pretend that it is an original 16" barrel from the factory for which no documentation is available but some angel told you it was the real deal. What would you want---this junk or a factory lettered pre-war 14" trapper '94 or '92 that can be had for about half of what this jerk is asking.

Whats that line that P.T. Barnum said? :D --------------Sixgun

"Buy it now" price is WAY out in left field. I'd want to see a bill-of-sale with description from 1949 before I'd give more'n... say... $500 for that bill-of-goods. :P :P :P And that bill of sale better look like it's from 1949... (although since that's before I was born... I wouldn't know the diff!

I guess the three notches were from when Teddy Roosevelt carried it up San Juan Hill.

I'm not impressed with the notches in the stock either,

here is my uncles old 32WS - you can't even see all the notches in this picture - I think there are 24 or 25 total.

dang --- front sight dovetail was cut in the wrong place --- that is apparent even to my relatively un-educated eyes
