puma lfi caseharding & questions

Post by bogus bill »

Guys, today I looked at a puma lfi octogon barreled short rifle with case colored reciever in .357. I had a old win 92 converted to .357 35 years ago and stupidly sold it. I know the browning 92 is thought to be the best. I have one in .44 mag. This puma turns me on. Ace hardware wants $530. Is that about right? Also the salesman couldnt tell me if that is real case harding or is it something bogus like rugers color case vaquaros. Any of you know? That looks like the almost perfect knocking around rifle for my quad and truck. Looks better to me then marlins. What do you guys think. I probley would put on a tang sight.

Bill,

If you mean LSI, Legacy Sports International, then their site says MSRP on that rifle "PUM51203" is $747.00:

Considering that prices are rising, and that a Uberti rifle of any kind sells for a few hundred dollars more than your dealer wants for that Puma, $530.00 is not out of line. I always want to pay less, though!

My guess is, since Rossi's steel is quite modern, and capable of handling .454 pressures, that their color case hardening is just some cometic application. ...just a guess...
