Sorta' OT - 3/8 Dovetail Rout Bit

Looking to find the proper Dovetail bit to get the same dovetail found on Win94s / Marlins.

I've got a DIY project in mind with my Marlin 39a / 1894 / 9422

A dovetail router bit wont work. You will need a Dovetail cutting 60 deg. end mill. They are available from Brownells,Midway and others.

You need a milling machine or GOOD drill press with milling vice, Routers turn too fast.

There's also a 3/8 manual dovetailing jig from Wheeler Eng up at Midway's site. It uses an included triangular file. There was a how-to using this jig in AR quite a few months back. Not sure I'd do it, but for a single job it might be the way to go. I have no experience with it, but the article in AR was decent enough.

I used a triangle file from the auto parts to open up the dovetail for the new front sight on my ML. It was a perfect triangle(60Â° on all corners), but, the edge wasn't quite as sharp as it probably needed to be. I did it completely by hand/eyeball. It ain't pretty, but, it works.

I think I would like one of them jigs though, sounds like fun.

A standard triangle file won't be fine enough to suit most people. It would take something from a Swiss needle file set to get things really tight.
Sears sells a set for around $10 IIRC.
