WOW....what a find! PICS added

Post by Old Time Hunter »

Got a call from a local gun shop today that someone was interested in one of my run of the mill '94 .30-30's (it is still NIB, but been sitting around for a few years) and went to investigate.

Well...turns out the shop also has in it's possession, as consignment rifles from the same elderly gent, the following:

Model 1973 Winchester serial #557XX, chambered for .22LR! Absolutely beautiful condition, the bluing on the octagon barrel and magazine is changing to a plum patina, the receiver is probably 70% blue, the cresent butt plate is like 95%, and the wood is really, really good+. Checked the bore, shiny bright with strong rifling. Not a bit of rust or pitting anywhere, action is nice and smooth!

He also had a:

Model 93 Marlin....chambered for .32 Special, serial # 11XXX. Again, exceptionally bright bore, great action. Oh yea, has a button mag. Serial # does not jive with my book, but the '93 w/.32 Special had some duplicate #'s going backwards. Gent says it was made in '03...1903.

Sorry about the quality of the pictures...I am pretty much the novice.

If anyone is interested, PM me and I'll give you the contact information.

Did not have the camera with me, otherwise I'd be posting.

How much are they asking for the 1873?

He has no idea what to ask for them and said if anyone is interested give him a call. His name is Kevin and can be reached at 414.327.7044, just mention you heard of them from a guy on Leverguns.com.

If I have time tomorrow, I'll drive a couple of hours and take the pics.

'73s were NOT chambered in .22LR. .22 short and .22 Long only, for all intents and purposes. I wasn't aware that it could be chambered for the long rifle case and bullet length. If so, it sounds interesting. Please determine the price and report. :)

I believe '73s were in short, long, and extra long. There were also a couple made with a special selector on the elevator that would allow one to switch between the several variants. I'm not sure they were generally available though.

Well, here is a couple more of the Winchester '73...says .22 long on the barrel. Picutes are not the greatest:

I'm not sure but I dont think a 1903 Marlin should have the serial number under the lever.

Still a couple nice guns for sure! :D

Bogus Bill, they are at the "Shooter's Shop" in West Allis, WI. The Shooter's Shop has been acquiring a passel of vintage arms lately, mostly walk ins. Eric "Trainwreck" Grabowski, the manager, is baffled by this since their expertise lies in black guns and outfitting LEO's.

I've been trying to research the values and they are all over the place.

Thanks for the pics. Nice looking gun. The condition of the bore is what is important to me anyway. These older 22's suffered a lot of erosion if not properly cared for. And for me, unless it were pristine outside, I would want to shoot it and hand it down to my kids as something they could shoot with their kids. Of course, based on my login, you can probably guess that I have a few too many rimfires ... at least that's what my wife says.

Gunshops around me are buying a lot guns right now from walk ins. I seen a 1892 in 25-20 octagon barrel on thursday made in the 20's and a marlin 57 in 22mag in mint shape. It sure fun to handle the old stuff.

I'd love to have a '73 in 22LR. Would like one in 38-40 more.
