Got a New Marlin

Post by Swampman »

While I did have a nice Glenfield 30 and a 30A, oddly enough the one Marlin I didn't have was a 336 in .30-30. I found one yesterday in a pawn shop for $175.00. It looked a little sad sitting there on the rack. There were some light rust specks and bubba had installed a sling using the bullseye of course. It had a new looking Simmons Deerfield 3-9X32 scope in See-Thru mounts on it. The sn# shows it was made in 1976. When I got it home it cleaned up nicely with some 0000 steel wool and WD-40. You can't even tell there ever was any rust. I may order a new bullseye and a front sight hood for it. It's the perfect mate to my .35 Remington 336.

When I get enough of these See-Thru mounts saved up I'm gonna sell them at the scrap dealer and buy a new car;)

I may try the Simmons scope on my 39A.

I'll try to grab some pics today. The bore was dirty, but it cleaned up real nice and shiny. :D

Nice looking rifle. Just a suggestion but you might want to leave the sight hood off the .30-30 so as not to confuse it with the .35 Remington or at least make each rifle look distinctive so as not to confuse the two. Sounds crazy huh?

I've seen it go both ways -- a guy goes hunting and grabs the wrong ammo for the rifle he takes or a guy goes hunting and grabs the wrong rifle for the ammo he took. In that latter case he had two rifles that were identical in appearance and he just grabbed the wrong one out of his gun safe.

Stuff happens.

That's a great gun, and a nice price too! Looks like an earlier one, with the nicer wood too!

Sometimes pawn shops and little out of the way shops and stores hold big rewards for those who frequent them. Up In Wisconsin about 5 years ago, stopped at a little hole in the wall place that sold hardware and used bric-a-brac of all sorts, he had a little gun counter in the back, 3 boxes of .348 SilverTips for 22.00 a box. They came to Kansas after that. good luck with your 336.
