OT: Can You Help ID This Gun Part???

I wish this was one of those "Do you know what this is?" fun type of posts here, but this is a serious question...

I found this on the floor of my shop the other night, while searching for a real gun part that I'd dropped. As you can see, it's about 5/8" long, threaded on one end, with a cap that has a bored-through hole on the other end. It's obviously blued steel, which screams out "Gun Part" to me.

I am quite sure it's not from my Kimber 45, Marlin Cowboy 32, H&R 999 22 or T/C Omega which I've been working on/playing with the most lately, and I can't think of "anything else" it might be from...

The only other gun on my workbench lately was a buddy's 22 bolt-action, that had a Harris bipod on it -- could it be a part of that? I could see what some type of ring or clip would be inserted into the cap end, while the threaded end of this "thing" was attached somewhere.

But what is it???

Any ideas???

The reason this "gun part" is giving you fits is that it's actually a part from a loading press. It looks exactly like the primer ram that goes into my RCBS Rockchucker - small pistol primer size? The hole in the top is a dead give-a-way. There's a little cup that fits up around it that's not there.

I think O.S.O.K. is right. Should be a spring that holds the cup up. The hole is for tightening the screw with a punch.

When did RCBS change from the setscrew type to a threaded primer seater plug? Guess My Rockchucker is an "antique".

Mine is like 25 years old.... so your's must be really old

And yes, there's a spring that goes over the screw to hold the little primer cup up - and it screws into the swing arm.

Well, since I got used back about 1973 or '74 I guess it IS really old.

My old RCBC Partner Press is mounted on the bench right above where I found it, but I never prime on that press, and use one of those hand-priming devices instead. We'd moved earlier this year, so that piece must have been loose and just got knocked off recently.

Well, I guess it was sort of a "gunny" part -- good to know what it is.
