Elk calls

With any luck hopefully I'll draw a Kentucky elk permit this year, after three years of trying. I was wondering if turkey diaphram calls will make elk sounds, or do I need to just break down and buy some elk calls? Oh by the way, does anybody know the best place for tagging an elk in Kentucky?

Did not know they had Elk in KY. Are they Roosefelt or Rocky Mountain ElK

In Oregon we have both...

They are Rocky Mountain Elk transplanted there in the 1990's because of the extinction of the Eastern elk.

I read that ,at one time ,there were elk in what is now every state but Florida.

I bet the KY Fish and Game Dept. would gladly tell you where the heaviest population is. Can't hurt to ask?
