Stevens Favorite in 32 RF question
Question for those of you who own a Favorite in 32 rimfire. When a round is chambered can you see the top of the rim of the cartridge over the breechblock when the breechblock is closed? On mine I can see about 1/32" of the very top of the rim when the block is closed. Everything is tight but I am wondering if this is the way it was designed. They made 2 models of this, the 1894 version and the 1915 version. Mine is the 1894 version. this is my second 32 RF stevens, cant remember if my first one was like this or not. thanks to all in advance.

Yes! On the larger calibers the rim can easily be seen in the Favorites. Not a problem since the cartridge doesn't build much pressure, but don't ever consider rechambering a .32 Favorite to anything else, except a .22 rimfire.

Thanks marlinman. I have reason to believe my 32RF was once a 22 RF, that is why I was asking. I put 2 rounds thru it today. The first was fine, the second split flame out the top, and examining the case shows a rim split at the 12:00 position, which continued to the neck of the cartridge. Now I need to figure out if the case was bad or if it is the gun.

On te tiny Favorite, (or 1915 frame) I wouldn't convert it to ANY centerfire! A 44 would be fine, but even as weak as they are, they'll still hold up to many ceneterfire cartridges.
