OT - Last day of summer vacation...

Post by Ysabel Kid »

... for Y2K and his lil' sister. They start school tomorrow.

My wife has had a little tradition of taking the kids out to lunch on the last day of summer vacation. I have never made it; always been traveling on business or in meetings and couldn't break away. Well, not this year! I took the whole day off and it was wonderful!

We all slept in a bit and then I took Y2K to the range. He shot a magnum for the first time today - his grandfather's S&W Model 19 in .357 Magnum. He's fired it before shooting .38 Special's, but today he wanted to try it our with stiffer stuff. He did fine, shooting it one handed after a while. He's ready to move on up. We had a ball.

Got back home just as my wife and daughter were pulling in from their errands, and then we all went out to lunch. We invited my Mom, and all had a wonderful time. My daughter's favorite food is crab legs, and Red Lobster is running a special on them, so she was in heaven. We went over to my Mom's condo afterwards and went swimming in the pool. We had the place to ourselves all afternoon.

They all went to bed early - after all, tomorrow is the first day of school. I messed up my vacation a bit by doing 3 hours of e-mails tonight, but it will save me headaches in the morning - and I really behaved myself today and didn't do any work while I was with them. This is an accomplishment for me.

Even managed to win an auction on Gunbroker for a fluted 1860 Army repo at the end of the day. Got it relatively cheap too. All in all, a great day. I am going to have to make this a yearly event - it's just too much fun to miss!!!

Sounds like a great way to round off the summer vacation. :D

When I was at school the last day was always the saddest day of my life!

That's the part I'm having trouble with the most - concerning my job. I have no right to complain, with so many out of work, and so many doing so much harder work. But all the travel keeps me away from home, and both my kids are growing up way too fast! :(

When I lost my job last Christmas, I was very worried about that too...
How the heck are we going to make it?....So I had start my own business in the same field..
and now that I work from home...I see what I was missing....while working for the man...
The years went by so fast...That I have trouble remembering anything about my little girl
growing up....Should have quit and went out on my own a long long time ago....

Summer vacation is altogether too short these days. My sons are grown up and out on their own. I miss the boys they were, but I'm proud of the men they are. You'll never go wrong making time for your children

Sounds like the day before school was great! One of my boys starts school Monday - we'll see how that goes. I travel a lot for work too, but I am thankful for an outstanding "alternate work station" policy that let's me work from home 2 days per week. Now that my boys are each little men with their own unique personalities I leave with a heavy heart whenever I have to go away. I don't want to miss anything! Do what you can as often as you can!

Kid,
Sounds like the "good 'ole days" when I was a youngster. That was nice....Y2K will remember you for that. Good deed for you. :D Memories are better than purchases---------------Sixgun
