Ruger 96/22M??

Post by Rusty »

I was just wondering if anyone has a 96/22M. I'm thinking it would make a nice quiet type varmit rifle for foxes and yotes under 150 yards. I read on another board they all need trigger work as they come out of the box but after that they're fine.

Thanks,
Rusty <><

Can't help you with the 96/22M but I've got a 96/22LR that has been a great little rifle. Accurate and a nice trigger out of the box. A lot of guys that I shoot Belding Ground Squirrels with use the 96/22M are quite happy with them. No one I have heard has complained about the triggers. If Ruger still made the 96/22LR, I'd buy another one without a second thought.

Rusty,
Have a Ruger 9622 M. As Modoc ED wrote it is a great little rifle. The trigger is not so bad at all. My 9622M shots the lighter bullets more accurate than the "heavy" stuff. Very good results with CCI TNT HP, Federal TNT HP (same bullet) and Remington Premier. Not so good with Winchester HP, Winchester Supreme, CCI Maxi Mag and RWS HP. Very bad with CCI Maxi Mag +V HP. My Ruger changes the point of impact if the barrel is heating up. Would stay inside 100 meters for varmints as big as foxes.

You could not go wrong with the 9622M if you like the styling of the gun.

Modoc ED... There was a topic about these rifles on the old forum & IIRC folks were saying after market 10/22 barrels could be used in place of the 22M barrels...If you wanted to make yourself another 10/22..

Ben,
You're right about the barrels. I've been reading about them over on rimfirecentral and they say all you have to do to put a Green Mountain or other heavy barrel on the 92/22 is to cut another extractor slot in the barrel and a 10/22 barrel will work just fine.

Thanks,

My 96/ 22 has a 10 lb trigger pull. Bought it for the kids . They have to use 2 fingers to pull the trigger. I'm not sure if the after market 10/22 triggers are the same.
