94 Trapper

Post by brucew44guns »

Stopped by a Gun Store near Topeka, Kansas today, they had a like new Trapper in 45 Colt on consignment, $650.00. It was virtually perfect. After that post a day or so ago about which pistol caliber is best in a lever, the biggest majority was for the 45 Colt as I recall. I was several bucks short today of 650.00, so I passed, could I expect to get a nice one for less?, or maybe just get a new Marlin and be happy for it and the change left over? Never shopped for a Trapper and didn't want one when they built them.

Personally I'd shop for a cheaper one, or just pick up the Marlin. I own Trapper as well as Marlins, to me that much price difference isn't justified.

Trapper

Is the trapper really worth that price? I have a Large Lever Loop Rossi carbine in 45LC that I picked up on Gun Broker for 1/2 that price. I have had no problems out of it. I do plan on getting the DVD from Steve's Guns and see if I can slick it up a little more. I think I would look around. What I have seen lately at the gun shows in NC Things are selling slow. So if you have an upcoming Gun Show in your area it might pay to hit it. I dont like consignment guns. Either the dealer is trying to make him a good profit or the owner hasn't give him much leaway to take less.

$650 is too high, IMO.

When 16" Model 94s appear on store racks around here they don't last long. Maybe it's due to the price; invariably the Trappers or SRCs are marked $400-$450.

Thanks to your responses, I got home Tues night and went to Gunbroker to check it out a little, they had 2 on there a lot cheaper. I knew those guys had a 20% commision cranked into that gun at that price. I may well just get a nice little Marlin.

The right one for you will come along, Bruce. Better than half the fun is the anticipation and the "hunt" . . .
