OT, Or Maybe Not: I'm Not Going To Use Smilies
I might be part of the problem. I've taken to substituting graphics for prose. Without further ado, I shall try to make myself understood without the use of a graphic that could be interpreted in a myriad of ways. If there is any doubt of my attitude or intention, please feel free to make an inquiry either on my post or in a PM. Perhaps, as a family, we can have our default reaction to a thread be positive instead of looking for a hidden meaning or somehow choose to be offended.
I used to write pretty good and I shall try to do so once again.

You know Blaine, that does sound like a good idea. Although I have used these silly smilies for as long as I've been on line, I tend to not see them when I read others posts. Therefore they loose whatever meaning they were meant to convey.
So we'll just not use them.

Joe, I've upset in your cornflakes a couple times, I'm sure. Feel free to pee right back. I assure you that any consternation is topical and not personal.J Miller wrote:You know Blaine, that does sound like a good idea. That's the best stress relief I have ever found, especially when I have a couple of 30rd mags to burn off. Dump them and them I'm ready to start shooting rather than blasting.J Miller wrote:Gonna try to go to the range tomorrow. Burn off some frustration.

You do write well though. I sent you a very blunt maybe crude nasty political note once and you sent me a very well worded and restrained nasty note back.
I sure don't want to risk that again.
So ------ I don't let the merlot near the computer anymore.

Old Savage, I don't recall that. I was serious about disagreements being topical and not personal.
I will, however, not tolerate group hugs with the guys I shoot with. I'd just as soon french someone's Grandma.

I like the smileys. That's what I miss most from the old forum is the smileys, but I'm getting used to these. Anyway, these things serve a valuable purpose in that when, say, dry humor is presented, people who might be inclined to take it seriously can see, from the graphic, that the poster is just kidding. No, really, I'm serious!

I think the smileys can help communication. There were times I wrote a tongue-in-cheek comment and people thought I was serious. So now I put a smiley to try and give the comment some context.

Yep. +1. I'll take an AR or AK and a mag or two to start off a session. Sometimes I'll take the Sterling Mk4 and touch off a couple mags of doubles, triples and quad bursts at a couple milk jugs. After that, I'm ready for some serious shooting.awp101 wrote:That's the best stress relief I have ever found, especially when I have a couple of 30rd mags to burn off. Grannies is relative - if you'd 5, a Granny can still be a supermodel. For me, a Granny to me is in her 80's - if she's young! I have seen some beautiful women who are grandmothers, but wouldn't want to be kissing a grandmother for someone my age!!!BlaineG wrote:I'm starting to push 57...there are some good looking Grannies out there, Sir.Ysabel Kid wrote:Alright, now I really need that puking smiley...BlaineG wrote: I'd just as soon french someone's Grandma.
Group hugs, kissing grandma's .... we definately need a whole new set of smiley faces. I'm going searching to see what I can find. got to be a puke one out there, in fact, I think we have seen it on here before.

I tried a 30 rd magazine in my Marlin 1894, but it stuck out in front of the barrel so far that I kept shooting it off. How do you get it to work?awp101 wrote:That's the best stress relief I have ever found, especially when I have a couple of 30rd mags to burn off. Now that's funny...Grannies is relative...

Know when I found out I was getting old? When I started sizing women up by making allowances: i.e. "Man, if she was just 60# lighter, 10 years younger, had a couple of warts removed and some teeth replaced....She'd be HOT!"BlaineG wrote:I'm starting to push 57...there are some good looking Grannies out there, Sir.Ysabel Kid wrote:Alright, now I really need that puking smiley...BlaineG wrote: I'd just as soon french someone's Grandma.

I have 100's of animated smilies on my hard drive. Just no way to put them here other than to post them on some site like photobucket. And that's just too much trouble.
The problem with the smiles we have to the left is they have become so common we skim over them as we read the text. At least I do. I've had a number of posters ask me: "didn't see my smiley on my comment"? Well, I had just skimmed right over it, didn't even see it.
So that's why I agreed with Blaine, just say what you mean and skip the graphics.
That's what I'm going to try to do.
And I didn't make it to the range today. Maybe tomorrow ... if I feel better.
Joe
