OT: Positive Thoughts Needed -- Can't See My Sights Again...
Grrrrr... Aging is tough, but I guess getting older and dealing with the associated problems sure beats not getting old at all...
Anyway gang, I could use some positive thoughts sent my way, as it seems I have developed a torn retina in my right eye -- yet again! -- as this is the same eye it happened to back in early 2009.
Seems I might have gotten a "bad weld" and it didn't hold?!?!?!
When it happened the first time, that eye doc said I was "at risk" of developing a future tear in the left eye. But I didn't expect it to repeat in the same eye again... So now there's some heightened risk of a full retinal detachment, which would be more serious and involve a more complicated laser procedure. Since we moved recently, I had a new eye doc today and as an ex-Navy man (and Harvard Grad), he used ultrasound to "look" through all the blood and junk in the eye and was able to show us pictures of the tear. Yup -- looks like a bad weld. So far, the attachment of the retina looks good though. So here I am, half blind in the right eye due to the tear, but am literally "in the dark" on the fate of a possible detachment for the next 72 to 96 hours -- we'll know more by the end of the week.
I didn't label this as a "prayer request", as I know there are some much more serious needs out there, but dang it all guys, -- I can't see my sights to shoot! And we can't run the boat due to the bouncing we'd take... And, I'm limited to 3 hours of e-mail/computer use per day, so you know that work will have to take a priority (but not tonight).
When this happened 2 years ago, I experienced these challenges:
- Go to pet the dog and got a handful of air
- Reached for a light switch and missed it by 2 or 3 inches
- Put some cream in my coffee and missed the cup completely
...And so far, I've managed to repeat all of those and then some! Binocular vision should not be taken for granted! Protect you eye guys! (And gals too!)
Grrr... Not a happy camper here... But still very grateful for all the blessings I've been given.
Thanks all! Tight groups!
I hope to "see you" all again here soon!

That is a tough one but it sounds like you have a good chance of getting it straightened out. Said a little prayer for you.

Had similar problems - tear in right eye, then tear in left eye, then a different tear in right eye!
Then, after all was repaired, the buckle began to slip on my right eye and it had to be removed - more surgery! Then, the right eye pointed a little to the left and up!
Now, after wearing a patch on the right for a few months so I could drive, the brain began to compensate and things improved and I can shoot a shotgun and a scoped rifle again right handed , but still shoot rifle iron sights left handed. Pistols? Well, just shot perfect score on CHL rebewal qualification, and I do not know which eye was in charge of that.
As you said, aging is better than dying, so keep up the good fight and do not let the bastards wear you down!

Prayers up.
I think the retina will take less stress with heavy-recoiling handguns than shoulder arms, if that is any consolation.

Prayers up for successful surgery and complete recovery. I do agree with AJMD429 about handguns causing less stress on the retina than shoulder fired arms. Give it time to heal.
CRS's comment about not knowing which eye is in charge, well, I have that problem by nature. I do not have a dominant eye.

Thoughts and prayers your way. I had a partially detached retina earlier this spring (thankfully minor it turned out and righted itself 98%)-- which was a slightly more pronounced variation on the same theme a year ago,...and my mother had non-treatable macular degeneration, so at least know somewhat how disconcerting such things can be.

Prayer up. Are you taking your special vitamins? I'm sure you know what I'm talking about - pretty standard for retinal issues...

Old No7, sorry to hear of your grief. I'm wrestling with some medical stuff as well. If we are breathing and don't lie down and whine about life things get better. You sure don't strike me like some whiner.
Here's my cheer up. You can start practicing with your left eye so you can whine like me that nobody cares about us lefty shooters. Ruger finally puts out a tactical bolt rifle I can really like and its only in right. That is worth whining about.
Prayers are with you.
