Thanks! My mom and Dad had a great time, they drove to St. George and had lunch, didn't see them for 3-4 hours!
Tycer why are you selling your truck? If I remember you just rebuilt it a couple of years ago.

Re: OT - 54 Chevy, Life Long Project
My Dad was a fan of the '59 Fleetsides. He'd had 3 over the years. The first one he sold me as my 2nd "car", it had a 354ci Hemi in it and a DeSoto 3 speed! Burned thru tires at an incredible rate. (I think it was due to the stoopid 16yo driver)! The 2nd ended up being a parts source for #3. #3 was by far the nicest. Wish I'd gotten pictures, someone before him had lowered it, put an IFS front end under it and flipped the rear axle (notched & boxed the frame in that area, but otherwise left it stock with the 292 inline. He built a 327 and put in a T-10. Baby blue with the fleetside and the w/s visor... But, like all his cars that were cool, someone came along and offered him more money than he thought it was worth.
Myself, I think the '55-½ Chevy is the best lookin' p/u made. I think the only pics of mine are still in the old 35mm camera I've been carryin' around for the past 15 or so years... I know I started to document the build when I started, but now the pieces are just stacked up in the barn and no work on it since '98 when I bought my first big truck! NO, it ain't for sale! Gotta have something for the wife to complain about!

Very nice truck salvo.
I truly know your feelings as I have a '49 five window that I've had since '61.
Boy, you really went all out on that engine with aluminum heads and those rockers. I just went sb400 so I have LOTS of torque through a TH400. I did go IFS and the rear end is from a '95 Caprice cop car so it has discs and Posi-Trac. Hope you drive it a lot like I do mine. Will post some pics soon.

Re: OT - 54 Chevy, Life Long Project
I'm buying some equipment so small local farmers can begin growing and processing grains and seeds again. All the infrastructure here is long gone. I aim to fix that. As a believer that liquid fuels will continue to get more expensive, the grain and feed prices may dictate that communities relearn to grow their own.salvo wrote: Tycer why are you selling your truck? If I remember you just rebuilt it a couple of years ago.
One group just got a beautiful new mill for flour in nearby Asheville, so perhaps we can start growing some grains for that. Another local company, Sow True Seeds, markets natural and organic seeds nationally. I'll own the equipment to process many seeds. The place I buy my eggs is having to raise their prices again due to the cost of feeding the layers. I'll own the equipment to harvest, grind, mix, store, bag.......you get the idea.
So as much as I love the truck, I have a better use for its value.
I'll post here first when I list it.
Kind regards,
Tycer

Very nice truck Salvo! Glad I'm not the only one dividing his time between guns and hotrods! I don't have a ton of excess time lately. Been building the '46 austin gasser, fixing up the '69 Suburban, and soon getting back under the '71 Camaro to redo all the suspension! And then fit some shooting in there somewhere! Man, retirement is tough!;)

Tycer, I understand, you have a great plan!
marlinman93, I see you have a 69 Burb! After my Dad went for a ride in the 54 he asked me if I wanted to have his 71 Suburban to fix up, I said thanks Dad
I just went up to Utah and picked it up this weekend. It too has been in the family since 72, boy I have some great memories in that one too! It had a 400 big block but me and Dad built and swapped in a 454, that has maybe 10k miles on it now. It has been sitting and started on occasion for the last 10 years. All I needed to do was charge the battery and put a couple gallons of fresh gas and she fired right up and drove it on the trailer!
Another project in the works!

Sorry I am linking these, for some reason this sight is saying my pictures are to big, it has never done that before?

Way cool Scott . Bet the power brakes and steering make a world of difference on the road.
I look forward to seeing how the burb turns out.

Scott, I really appreciate the work you put into that. What beautiful results. Well done. And to have your dad and mom go for a ride in it is really special. that really touched my heart.

Yeah that's a great '71 Burb! Wont take much to fix that one up! I of course don't go by my same name over on the forum. It's 1971BB427 at the Suburban project thread.

The Burb is new to me, and the Austin I just started last August. The '71 Camaro I've owned since I got out of the USAF in 1973.

Excellent job, Scott. With those aluminum heads and roller cam she ought to be real snappy. Had a buddy that put a 396 in a pickup like yours and that baby would smoke the tires for two blocks easy. It wasn't a good machine in the hands of a highschool kid.

kimwcook, I have not had it on a dyno, but I was shooting for 450 horses/450 torque, it will definitely smoke um

Re: OT - 54 Chevy, Life Long Project
Very cool! Neat pics. Made the same year I was Details dude, details! gears? 750 cfm?
I bet the disc brakes make a huge difference. Nice quality job and doing it "right" by taking everything out--then painting. I tried it the other way and it looked like a bunch of drunken Italians did the job.
I've always noticed that gun guys have dual personalities as they usually are also "car cranks". I played with my old '67 Firebird with a overhead cam 6 (with a factory 4 barrel) for 25 years and it really cut in my gun time so I gave it to Jr, plus I wanted the garage for my Jeeps.---------Sixgun

Re: OT - 54 Chevy, Life Long Project
Sixgun the carb is an 650CFM, I already had, would have preferred a 750. I put smaller metering rods in it and it's tuned pretty good. The rear end is from a 57 when it was changed to 5 lug, it's a Hotchkis front drop out third member 3:54 or so with posi. Not sure it will hold up though. I have a friend that said he can find me a Ford 9" with disc's, so I'm sure I'll go that direction one of these days. Probably could sell the 57 rear end for some bucks to pay for the 9" if I don't blow it up first!

Griff, I got 77% on your car quiz. I'm not good with the older cars.
Scott, I'd go with the Ford 9". Stout as all get out and you can find whatever gear ratio you'd ever desire.

Awesome !! Those old Chevy's are the greatest.
a pal I grew up with had a '54 Chevy Panel Truck with a 235 & granny-low 4-speed. When he and I were young and immortal we drove it from LA to the Calgary Stampede and back ...... that's a mighty long way during the summer, cruisin' the desert at 45mph with no a/c.
Cheers,
Carl

Neat truck. Makes me want to go out to the barn and work on my 57 Chevy pu. Its been sitting for years since we move here from S. Ca.. Not as hi performace as yours. 327 camel back heads with a muncie 4 spd

Re: OT - 54 Chevy, Life Long Project
new pig hunter, I know exactly what your talking about, this one started out with the stovebolt 6 and 3 on the tree. Guess the summer heat was easier to take back then!
Bis you had better get to work on that 57! My second favorite year got pictures?

Re: OT - 54 Chevy, Life Long Project
Hay Salvo. It was a fun truck in So. Cal., went to all the curse nights, but out here in East Texas its a different story. That stock supension will kill you on these dirt back roads and the cruse nights are 30 + miles away. With a 411 rear end it will take forever to get there. My baby is now sitting in the barn and I go out and give it a loving pat almost every day. At my age I guess my son will have to finish this project.
