OT Glock Barrel

Post by RustyJr »

I have a Glock 23 in 40 S&W and was wondering if it was possible to buy an after market barrel in 9mm for it. I've got different responses from different people. Someone said that the 9mm will work and and another told me that it was 357 Sig that interchanged with the 40. Can anyone shed some light on this situation?

Thanks,
RustyJr

Yes, but you will also need the 9mm magazines.

I used to shoot 9mm in my G27 with a LoneWolf 9mm barrel frequently.

You just can't do it the other way around (i.e. no .40 bbl in a 9mm slide)

The .357 Sig is based on the .40/10mm case (OAL = .40S&W OAL) so that one doesn't require a change in magazines, just barrels.

How does that work...? I'm not familiar with the Glock design, but is it set up so that somehow a 9mm barrel would mate with a 9mm slide AND a .40 slide, but a .40 barrel would only mate up with a .40 slide...?

Since the Glock is not "controlled feed" the 9mm will center on the slide face of the .40. The .40 extractor is just strong/long enough to flick out the 9mm case which, because it's slightly tapered, wants to pop out on its own anyway.

OTOH, the face of the 9mm slide is too narrow to allow a .40 to seat against the firing pin.

Old Iron sights, have you had any reliability issues when using a 9mm barrel in a 40 frame?

None at all, but all I ever used it for was IDPA 'cause 9mm was cheaper to shoot than .40.

Thanks for the information.

A stock Glock 9mm barrel will NOT work in a 40 Glock; you need to by a 9mm conversion barrel for it. Lone Wolf sells a G23 9mm conversion barrel HERE.
