OT, but too bloody cool to not bring up...
You know about .45 Colt Conversion cylinders for C&B guns... but Kirst has upped (downed?) the ante:

How cool is that! I'm interested in knowing when they'll do that for the open tops. They could put in a longer liner.

That is, in fact, too cool to let pass unannounced.

I feel like the cat.
Very cool - me wonders about accuracy... hmm
And my 1858 is a target model and therefore has an adjustable sight, so it can be zero'ed...

I'm guessing, but it looks like the effective length of the bbl liner is about 3"

Interesting as long as it doesn't pattern like a shotgun. Have to show my buddy this.

Hey! I have just the gun for it! This original old NEW MODEL 1858 REMINGTON. It was refinished many years ago before I bought it. It has a red post king front sight and the hog wallow rear notch has been squared up. Might have seen civil war action?

You know, I'll bet I could make one of those for my FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER. The bore and chambers could be offset down and you wouldn't even need to change the firing pin. HMMM. Really neat conversion.

$275, eh ?............. Well, for $50, if you already have a cylinder chambered to .45 Colt, you can buy six .22LR adaptors that have a bit of rifling in the forward end of each one - not accurate enough for target work, but ample for plinking or draw/fire practice.

Re: OT, but too bloody cool to not bring up...
Not yet - though I did pop for a pair of conversion cylinders last month. One was for the Pietta 1860 Colt Army clones I have (I have three of them - one regular length, one "sheriff's length" and one "snub nose", and it fit all three ). The caliber converts the .44 blackpowder to a .45 Colt. The other converts my Uberti 1849 Colt from a .31 caliber blackpowder to a .32 S&W. Still need to get these out for a range session!

YK, did you go R&D/Howell or Kirst?
I have an R&D for the 1858 (and had one for the revolving rifle as well when I had it) and enjoy them. I'm thinking about the Kirst with loading gate but I don't know if the work can be done without a lathe or mill. Of course the .22 doesn't have that problem.
