Chaparral Centennial problem

Post by Yance »

Well, I finally got some Cerrosafe and made a chamber cast of my buddy's '76. I knew it came in with a boogered chamber because of the ring around the fireformed cases about .135 below the shoulder, but I had no way of knowing how bad 'til this afternoon.

Have no clue how a (supposedly) piloted reamer could cut this badly. Hard to get a true measurement but I'd guess .010 or better off center at the casemouth besides the "extra shoulder" .135 below the bottom of the real shoulder.

Guess nobody either in Italy OR here in the US bothered to "put an eyeball" on this one before they screwed it into the frame.

Guess I'll call Chaparral early tomorrow for a RA. Anyone want to start a pool on how long it takes for this one to come back?

Yep. Looks like about half the imports are good right out of the box.

Since I'm not a member over on that forum I couldn't add my 2¢ but did read all the replies. Funny, no one mentioned having a bad chamber.

Rifle headed to Charter in Connecticut this evening. Hope they have a short turnaround time.

Received the replacement (hopefully correct dimensions this time) sizer die body from Lyman today so we'll be ready to go when the rifle comes back.
