I was out at the range on Saturday, with our nice weather. I realize a lot of you are not big fans of any scopes. But, I zeroed 5 new scopes on 5 different rifles and had some intersting revelations. Four of the new scopes have the German #4 type reticle and I found out that I truly prefer them to the standard duplex for big game hunting. A Leupold 30mm 1.25-4 has an awesome sight picture at low power with both eyes open and also was able to give 1.5" groups out of my BLR in .358 (best ever) at 100yds. The best group fired with this reticle type was less than 7/8". It, to me , is the best reticle available for hunting, being easily seen quickly and also able to give precise groups as well. I'd highly recommend you look at this reticle if considering a scope purchase!
Sounds like a day well spent. Now I am not to familiar with a lot of the reticle patterns or at least their popular names. With that said what is the German reticle is that the 2 horizontal bars with the single verticle post?

I love Trijicon stuff, but I always thought that picture was taken through the scope of someone about to gut shoot a running deer.Pete44ru wrote:I'm a fan of post reticles, on scoped deer rifles - but find the multiple heavy European post reticles too "busy" & cluttered.
I'm happiest with my (non-battery) Trijicon AccuPoint's hollow post reticle:
The German #4 and Burris's CP3#4 is actually very similar to a Leupold heavy duplex, minus the upper heavy post. There are 3 heavy posts (from bottom and both sides) that get small near the center, ala duplex style and the upper crosshair is slim from the center to the top. I did not find it at all distracting while shooting precisely from the bench and found it very fast when picking up a sight picture with both eyes open as in fast, close shooting. I wished I had tried it sooner.JReed wrote:Sounds like a day well spent. Now I am not to familiar with a lot of the reticle patterns or at least their popular names. Ok I see what you are talking about. I have been looking at a Russian PU snipers scope to put on my enfield since it is the closest thing I can find to the original and still be in my price range.
