Good Hunting with my Son

Post by Rube Burrows »

Well took a trip to North Alabama to our family land. Its hard to beat being in the woods....enjoying the cold and everything else mother nature has to offer. Here are a few pics from this weekend.

Fantastic times, at 72 I still miss those days with my dad. I do dig out the old pictures sometimes.

You guys have had some colder than usual weather lately, how'd that affect the deer down there?
Sincerely,

They seem to be moving pretty good. Last year they were not moving good at all. Didnt kill a deer at all last year. This year I have seen lots of deer already and some nice bucks moving. The rut has started a little earlier this year.

Its a little Rossi 92 in .357Mag.

This year I have been rotating between some of my Winchester 94s in 30-30, The Rossi 92s in .357 and .45 Colt and Marlin .338 MX.

Well it was not a handload. I was using Ultramax Match 158gr JHP.

They got the job done.

Looks like a great time for both of you! The importance of those times together cannot be overstated. Looking at your pictures brings back a lot of my own memories! Nice looking buck!

I'm sure that not only will your son remember that hunt forever, but that YOU will too. I know as I have two boys in their mid-late 40's and I still treasure memories of our early hunts together. Good on you !! :D

Yes, I know its one of the great hunting memories we have so far. Him getting his fox was pretty nice. I cant wait for him to bag a deer of his own. I know he will get one soon. Almost got him a shot several times this year but trying to get the perfect shot so that its an ethical kill is a little harder....in my mind anyways. The boy is a darn fine shot for his age.

Great post, thanks for the pictures. I still remember when my son shot his first buck while hunting Fort Benning, GA. Took three weeks for the grin to rub off.

I know tha twill be the case. When he shot his first fox last year he thought he was the MAN. I had to kill a deer just to show him that I can still hunt. Been letting him do all the shooting the last few years......cause I love to see him get something. He was kinda starting to think he was the master hunter and I was just there to watch.
