Range Report - 35 Rem and Leverevolution

Post by Old Savage »

Last week curiousity got to me and I sprung for a box of the 200 gr Leverevolution to see how it would perform in a 336. I was not disappointed even at $25 a box.

The Leverevolution 200 gr. group is in the 10 ring in the Black. These are the only five shots taken with this ammo. It seems to hit just a bit higher that Remington Corelokt 200 gr. but needs no sight change. Velocities are listed to the right. They average just over 2100 fps. from this 20" barrel which is approximately 100 fps less than listed on the box. Ballistic tables suggest this may extend the range 50 yds.

I have now tried the Leverevolution in 30-30, 35 Rem and 45-70 and results have been very good in all, accurate and consistent.

I recently acquired some 300 Savage rds loaded by a friend. We broke one down and it seemed to have 40 gr. of either 4064 or 3031 with a 150 gr Silvertip. If 4064 they were right in the ballpark for a Model 99. 3031 would likely make them too hot. I borrowed a friends Rem 722 to test them. As you can see they chronographed 2785 fps. and were fine in the 722. I decided they were hotter than I wanted for the 99 so the remaining 67 rounds went to the owner of the 722. As we see the lever beat the bolt on accuracy here.

I shot several 3 shot groups out of my 336 .30-30 and they were all nice and tight. I like this new LE ammo. When I find some in .357mag I'll try it in my Rossi SRC.
