NEED $$ INFO ON COLT PEACEMAKER 22

Post by TedH »

I found a Colt Peacemaker today. As far as I can tell it is NIB. It has both 22LR and 22 Mag cylinders. I could not find any blueing wear at all, not even a trace of a ring around either cylinder. Has original styrofoam packaging, papers and box. Seller says it is a 1960 vintage. What is this thing worth? I wasn't really in the market, but if we can strike a good deal I may have to pounce on it.

I saw one at a local gun show a cople of weeks ago that looked as you described that one but I can't remember the price  I have one but it's had many many many rounds of 22 put though it. Mines has a 4 5/8 barrel and also the 22 mag cylinder. Still have the box also. It was the first gun I every owned, my brother gave it to me used when I was 12 or so. It has traveled many a mile on my hip as a kid roaming the country side. It looks a little rough now. I've been thinking about sending it off to get it reblued and color case hardened and then retiring it.

You see people trying to get $500-700 for them, but I have yet to see one sell locally for those prices. For one in the condition you describe, I'd think seriously about it under $400. I'd rather have a Ruger Single Six, but when you start approaching SS prices, I'd be thinking about that Colt.

cubrock,
I checked on Gunbroker and found one identicle to the one I looked at. It is bid up to $550 with quite a bit of time left. The seller on that one has a buy it now of $850, which seems pretty high. I guess I'll watch and see where that one ends up before I make any decision.

This is exactly like the one I am looking at. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewIt ... m=90901853

I haven't seen either a .22 SAA/Peacemaker, or a .22 New Frontier, with both cylinders, actually sell for less than $500 in the last two years.

I didn't look at stuff on Gunbroker - I was talking about local pricing. I guess it depends on whether you want to buy it to keep or to roll over. For me to want to buy one to keep, it would have to be $400 or less. That is just my 2 cents based on my lukewarm desire to own one. :D Your mileage may vary.
