Marlin 1894 CL .32-20

Post by sammer »

Hey Guys,
Can anyone relate any exprerience on brand, model and shooting with peep sights on their Marlin 1894CL? It has become my new favorite and I would rather carry it in the field for plinking and rabbit busting than a .22

BTW have used it from my deer stand to nail 25-75 lbs. hogs at 50 yds. using factory ammo. with out a problem.

I'll need to know things as replacing the front post too, etc.

Thanks,
Sam Luera

Welcome - pics - always wanted one of those. But, getting a 357 forestalled that as ammo is cheaper and there is no recoil.

Pic's? Will do. Going out again, deer hunting, with my son the first weekend in December. That young man can shoot, uses a '60's era Savage 99 in .243.
We hunt around Halletsville, TX lots of hogs.

The Williams FP 'ghost ringed' by removing the aperture (after sighting in off the bench with the aperture in place), with the factory gold bead, works fine for me.

I think most of the .32-20's have side-tapping from the factory, and thus can use the Williams FP-94 sight, but if yours isn't side-tapped and you don't want to have it done, you can just use the Williams FP-336 model, which mounts on the top using the scope-screw holes. Both models use the factory front sight without problems.

Here's a few pictures I posted a ways back on 'aperture' sight options:

Thanks for the help. The link was informative.
I didn't post the question until after I had called Marlin...no help there, Lyman...very little help there. I finally called Williams Sight and was given three different options. I think I'm going with the FP-336.

Just so you know, not to knock Lyman but "the 66LA should work" and the receiver "might have to be drilled and tapped" left me with the easier decision to go with the Williams.

Thank you all for the help and with any luck I'll be able to pass on pic's of a sucessful hunt.

Sam,
All you need to do to find out if your rifle is D&T'd for a side mount receiver sight is look at it. The two little holes on either side of the ejector peg hole are for the sight. If there are no holes there, then you will have to have it D&T'd.
The Lyman 66LA is correct for the Marlin 1894 and 336.

I've had the same thing happen when I've called Williams and to a lesser extent Lyman. Their customer service people are dimwits.

My 1894CL was D&Ted and I mounted the FP94/36 which works a treat. I guess I need a new photo of it...

The first run, in the '90's was, the 2004-2006 production was not. The Williams is the only one that will fit the scope holes.

I have a Skinner lo- pro on my 32-20 Cl and love it . I believe I had to go with a .450 front sight to get to hit where I want to . No problem with the windage adjustment, the front sight is dead center. But I shoot hot loads for rifles from the Speer manual. 100gr at about 2000 fps. The regular Skinner peep sight is to high for the dove tailed front sight. It is made to be used with ramp sights. Good Luck !

More useful info. The side of my receiver is not tapped so I'll have to use the Williams FP-336. I'll check out the Skinner too.

Thanks,
Sam
