I did an action job on my Rossi with the help from Nate's DVD and it turned out great. I took it out today and it works much much better. I couldn't have done it with out the help.
I do have one issue tho. When I tighten the lever pin accesses screw down it jams the action. If I back it out a smidge the action works. Of course it kept backing out while at the range. Do I have the lever pin driven in too far or what?

Re: Thanks Nate
Actually, you don't have the lever pin driven in quite enough so that as you work the bolt back the lever pin is contacting the screw. Line up the holes and drive the pin in a bit more. Problem will be solved.Derailed wrote:I did an action job on my Rossi with the help from Nate's DVD and it turned out great. I took it out today and it works much much better. Re: Thanks Nate
I was just messing with it and with the action open and I tighten the screw it prevents the action from closing. Makes me think I have the wrong screw in the wrong place. The screw I have has an extension on it. Maybe I need to take a bit off the end of the screw?
Re: Thanks Nate
If it worked before you worked on the gun, why would it need to be shorter now? You have changed something that gives you the circumstances you are experiencing. You mentioned that you might have the wrong screw there, what OTHER screw is the same size except for length?Derailed wrote:I was just messing with it and with the action open and I tighten the screw it prevents the action from closing. NEVER remove metal without a good reason. That stuff is the dickens to replace!

Re: Thanks Nate
Don't know whether they are the same thread size, but the screws that locate the carrier/lifter have a portion at the end that's not threaded. The screw plug for the lever pin has no extension.
Re: Thanks Nate
I pulled each one of these out one @ a time to compare and they are both longer. The only one that may be wrong is the loading gate screw. Is there an assembly drawing somewhere that could help?Chas. wrote:Don't know whether they are the same thread size, but the screws that locate the carrier/lifter have a portion at the end that's not threaded. The screw isn't too long. The problem is Rossi is making the hole in the frame too deep. It seems about half of the gun through here lately have this problem. Unfortunely Rossi's fix is to just leave the screw loose. It's got so bad that I get at least one request a week for lost replacement plugs.
This is how I have been fixing these. First, I try a single coil off of a small coil spring over the plug screw used like a lock washer. Sometimes that doesn't work and I end up clearancing the screw to clear the bolt. You would think just removing some from the end of the plug screw would do it but some are also binding on the threaded part of the plug screw.
This one is about right. But some go in so far the guide rail of the bolt hits the threads of the plug.

That makes me feel better. Thought I got something switched.
I should be able to scrounge up a washer.
