value of Savage 99,refinished stock

Post by big bear »

For accumulators (as opposed to real collectors) what devalues a rifle the most...sanded/refinished stock, added sling swivels(holes drilled in wood), holes in receiver for sight mounting? Trying to talk myself out of a cheap Savage 99,80-85% blueing , no extra holes, sanded/refinished stock. And of course, I don't NEED it, but then again, they don't make em anymore!

Holes by far. The rest is not that important to me for a gun I will use.

I agree with OS - holes in the metal that were not put there in the factory make it less interesting and valuable to me, unless it is priced very nicely.

Any deviation from factory new devalues the gun....

until I get it home! I don't like odd holes but most other things except over eager sanding can be fixed.
Sincerely,

Hobie

Holes for side mount scope mounts. These drive me away from a purchase unless the gun is dirt cheap.
Holes nicely done for top mount scopes or side mount receiver sights do not bother me. As I said though; nicely done.

If the stock is simply refinished and not half sanded away I don't care about it.
