Re: There's no Wolf problem in Utah......
We all have been told that wolves only kill for food, so the two calves killed must still be alive, or one of them anyway. If the people who want to reintroduce a species had to pay for all damages incurred, maybe the situation would change, but that is probably best left to a political discussion. I wonder how well a 170 grain Remington Core-Lokt from a .30-30 would do on a livestock killing wolf? Is there any way of legally testing?

that story makes it sound like some poor, lonely SINGLE wolf did these things.
since when do wolves travel alone? where was the rest of the pack? at least
they admit it was wolf depredation.![Rolling Eyes ](./images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)

For the moment, you're OK in Draper.
But I expect the wolf population to spread south to at least mid-state within 10 years.
That gives you plenty of time to sell off your sheep & move to St. George.![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

A collared wolf from the Yellowstone country was killed near Cedar City, Utah a couple years back... There have been a number of recent sightings in the Ogden/Weber County area, where several of my kids live.
So don't be too sure that you'd be too safe, ranching in the St. George area over the next few years...

Re: There's no Wolf problem in Utah......
According to the Nebraska Game Dept. there are no wolves in Nebraska, but if there are they won't attack livestock or people, and if they do it was your fault to begin with, OH and if you shoot a wolf and we catch you you are going to jail.
Our biggest problem here is the folks who want to raise their own wolf till it becomes unmanagable and they dump it in the country. I've had to destroy 3 so far one of which was running through a small town killing every small dog it could get to.
Seems to me there might have been a reason my ancestors killed off all the wolves and mountain lions in farm country, but hey what do I know.

Buck,
I must have slept right through that one, had not heard about any wolf as far down as Cedar.
Those things are going to cause a lotta trouble in the near future, regardless of what the government "experts" say....![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
