I was in the living room when my wife came from the garage saying there was a coyote at the back yard gate, our back yard is only about 25 feet deep. Our Lab had been barking so Becky stepped out the back door of the garage to see what the fuss was and the coyote was just standing there looking at her. We have lots coyote's around but they don't normaly come that near the house. I grabbed the nearest rifle, my BLR 358 win that I had been shooting yesterday getting ready for the Texas safri hunt, and headed out back. I get in the back yard, I'm still in my boxers with a shirt and no shoes and about 36 degrees ( don't worry, I wont post a pic of me in my early morning hunting oufit) The coyote had moved away, out to the left, when I spotted it and it spotted me. I'm trying to get on the yote and get my lab out of the way and shot thru a chain link fence with my wife also trying to call the dog. I finally get a shot, with the dog out of the way, and nail the yote at 40-50 yards out. I thought that I had missed, from my last sight picture I had swung a little to the left just as I pulled the 8 pound trigger on my BLR. But the coyote dropped and flopped a couple times and was still. After getting some pants and boots on I went out and dragged it up to the house. I did pull to the left a little but caught the yote just in front of the left shoulder and took its throat out. Those Hornady 200 spire points did a number but, I think I may of been a little under gunned.
Thanks Hobie, most of my neighbors are kin to me and the closest in that direction is a 1/4 mile away. They don't think to much of it when they hear gun fire from my direction. They just consider the source .
Good job! I too, don't like seeing animals that close to the house. I've shot a mess of foxes that have done that. Those suckers have given my dogs mange several times so I bust 'em when I can, but...............Elmer Keith would have thought you to be undergunned.
I shot both of these--look how mangy they are

crs, looking at a map I would judge it to be about 15 miles as the crow flies. Now, as the car drives it's about 30, most of that going down FM36 and all of its S curves. I live about a mile east of I30 on FM 1903. We kind of stay confused where we live, Greenville address, Caddo Mills ISD, and Caddo Mills phone exchange. I grew up here and went to school at Caddo so I have always told people I'm from Caddo. When I was younger I would tell people I was from Caddo Mills and they would ask what it was near, I would tell them Greenville. They would smile and ask if the SIGN was still there in Greenville.
