Semi O/T range findings

These are some wet newsprint results I shot this morning.They where all shot at 30yrd
into the same media.

308 win-150 factory coreloc- 13"
30-30-160 ftx @ 2100fps- 11"
30-30-170 Hor Interlock @ 2100fps 18"
357-158XTP-1500fps 8-9"
357-180XTP-1800fps 14"
357-180 Cast Performance WFNGC 18"

Its neat to compare and see things that are real and not on papper or magazine.I had a feeling
the 357 would do what it did but I was most impressed with the 30-30 170gr Interlock.At a close range it held together, mushroomed and drove alot deeper than the FTX.If the FTX was
traveling at a higher rate it would of separated and blown up.With the 357 I think the 180gr
XTP would be my choice for deer and the hard cast for hogs.I love the 308 but under 150yards
it would be unnecessary.

I think your findings are right on the money. I might add the the Remington 180 grain SJHP .357 bullet to that list to try. From my experience it gets about 14-16" of penetration and expands to about .45". The deer I've seen hit with this bullet (9) seem to drop within 20 FEET of where they stand. All were taken under 100 yds with either a Contender handgun or levergun. It seems to have alot of "splash" effect on deer nervous system.
