OK, I'm going to scout mount a holosight and backup ghost ring my .357 1894 carbine.
I found the XS scout mount for 336, 1894, 1895 but it doesn't SAY it's for the carbine. I don't suspect there would be an issue but I'd better ask first.
The only XS ghost ring I see at Midway has the front ramp. Mine has a dovetailed front sight and the XS website isn't clear to me if there's a dovetailed version. The only options I see are with ramp and without but there's no picture of the front to indicate if it's a dovetail or just no front sight.
I understand co-witnessing the backups to the holosight but for those times I may want to put a long eye relief scope in place of the holosight, will the front sight interfere with the sight picture through the LER scope?
Thanks!
If these walls could talk, I'd listen to the floor.
The front sight is out of focus through the scope, and doesn't bother my sight picture.
The XS ramp front is designed to replace your entire ramp and sight blade with their one-piece, IIRC. Get the one for the M1894, period.
[XS does make dovetail-type replacement blades, but you're gonna have to mess around, finding the correct height, if you use one with your ramp. XS does supply a too-tall plastic trial post, you can shoot/cut/measure for the correct height.]
Ditto the LeverScout mount base. Get the old, short one, for the M1894, period.
It will mount at the rear sight dovetail and the front scope mount holes, leavng the rear scope mount holes free for mounting the XS peep.
I would call XS. The will help you out. I think the front sight without the ramp is the one you want for your rifle, but better be sure and save yourself the return shipping.
As noted above, you will barely see the front sight, if at all, when you are using an IER or LER scope.
Is your front post dove-tailed onto the barrel or onto a screw-on ramp?
Mine was on a screw-on ramp, and the XS ramp just replaces that whole Marlin front-sight assembly.
FYI, XS does make front posts that dovetail directly onto the barrel, but in my experience they usually supply those with the W94 "Trapper" sight sets.
If you call them directly they can send you a custom set of whatever you need.
The guys at XS are real helpful, you can buy directly from them if you want to.

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.
History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

OK, I figured out my confusion. Well, on this bit at least.
The front of the package says "Available for the 336, 1894, 1895". The way the mount was sitting in the package hid the "Available for" part. The sticker on the back says exactly which model it's for.
XS is closed on the weekends so I'll call Monday to find out the correct ring set up.
Thanks for the info!
