I work for a large insurance restoration construction co. Got a call this a.m. for a garage fire.
The home belongs to one of the local PD's K9 officer. Not a real bad fire, everyone was fine and mostly smoke and drywall damage. Fire was started by a plugged in(and brand new ), but not on, space heater in the garage. This is where the dog usually stays but since it's so cold the dog was in the house! Had he been in the garage he wouldn't have made it.
One Lucky Dog!
Watch thoses space heaters! We get a lot of business from those things.

Good lesson learned for all of us. I have a fireman friend who tells me most house fires are a result of electrical shorts, either old wires under a carpet, in the walls or appliances that are NOT turned on.
