Hi, folks,
I know this was answered on the old Leverguns forum, but I didn't think
to copy that thread. I'm putting together a 94 for my wife, and will be adding a good recoil pad to make it more pleasant for her to shoot.
What pads have you used, and which do you recommend? I'm looking at Limbsaver, Kickeeze, and Pachmayr Decelerator, to start.
86er, if I recall correctly, you had some good info on this -- please chime in, if you don't mind!
Thanks all,
John
Preferred recoil pad?

The Limbsaver really soaks up the recoil of my 45-70 Marlin 1895 and I have a Decelarator on my Synthetic Stocked Custom Mauser in 30'06 and it sure is a lot nice on the shoulder than the Metal butt plate on my pre-64 M70 30'06. Both are great if professionally installed and ground to fit but I slightly prefer the Limbsaver.

I have all three. The limbsaver was the easiest to finish. All work great.
Kind regards,

I prefer Kick-eez. The sorbothane has a consistent density regardless of thickness of length. The properties allow the longest compresssion time - even though it's thousanths of a second. Kick-eez will grab your shirt. They offer a product called Slick-eez that you sort of paint on the top edge with the included applicator. It creates a hard plastic shell so you can get the pad into the shoulder, but then it will stay there. The shell can be rejuvenated when/if necessary. The polymer base is a little better than other brands. I've taken off old pads and found the base plate cracked. The Kick-eez will remain flexible and sturdy over time. I like the Kick-eez with knock-out plugs. You never have to shove the turnscrew though the pad to get at the screw heads. Just pull the plugs and there is a nice hole there to work through. The Kick-eez Universal is my favorite because it has a hole and a slot. You can adjust the pad any way you like it before grinding and mounting it.
I have a Limbsaver on a semi-auto shotgun that is ID. I found this pad compresses and responds more in time with the cycling of the action. It was also the exact weight I needed to balance the gun.
My 20b SXS has a leather covered Decelarator pad on it. That pad was the only one in the thickness I needed to make the appropriate stock dimensions and tuck the leather.
Just my opinion, but I've used them all many times, recently a HiViz pad that was requested. Kick-eez has proven the best for me every time.
