Single shot .30-30
I have a Handi rifle that I love to shoot but I was thinking that I'd like to have another single shot .30-30 with a longer barrel. Something like 26" or longer. I was looking at one a long time ago either a rolling block or a low wall but I can't remember where I saw it now. Has anyone seen one of these lately?

I've seen H&R (I think) brand 'Buffalo Guns' i n .45-70, but dunno if they made them in .30-30 as well. You could always have an Encore chambered in .30-30 with any length barrel from 10" to 30".

Browning's 1885 Traditional Hunter was available in 30-30 with a barrel length of 28".

According to this Uberti also does an 1885 in 30-30:

The Brown 97D is a sweet little falling block available in many chamberings, and the custom-ordered ones can be had with barrels to, I think, 30" -- but I'll admit they've gotten pricey since I bought my two, .300 BRM and 6.5 BRM. Today, one will cost you almost what you would've paid for two a decade ago.

Oh Bruce, the Uberti must have been the one I was looking at. Thanks.

Re: Single shot .30-30
I have a TC Carbine with 21 inch barrel.
Frankly I cannot think of a benefit of a 26 inch barrel in this chambering- they seem pretty close to delivering optimal power at the 20-21 inch mark.
I am sure the TC Custom shop would oblige you if you so desired- they seem quite accomodating.

Actually, on second thought, I'd bet it's this rifle you saw:Rusty wrote:I have a Handi rifle that I love to shoot but I was thinking that I'd like to have another single shot .30-30 with a longer barrel. You may be talking about a Savage Model 219. I happen to have one in 30/30 and it's a great little rifle. 26" barrel with no exposed hammer and breaks like a typical S/S or O/U shotgun using a thumb lever. They are getting tough to find anymore, especially in good condition. Mine is actually a fine shooter.
Here's a picture of one recently sold on Gunbroker:

Re: Single shot .30-30
There is a small improvement in velocity between the 20" carbines and the 26" rifles, and with some powders it's a pretty good increase. Also, with open sights the longer sight radius allows for more precise sight alignment.
