OT Skype - any one use it?

Post by Old Savage »

What does it cost, how do you like it. Free to download I see.

Jr. was using it for a while when he was seeing a young lady that was hearing impaired. They could use the computer screen and cameras to do their signing. All you have to buy is a Skype compatible headset with mic and you're off and running.

My sister in law has also used it to talk with their daughter when she was a missionary in Argentina.

It's free although I think there is an enhanced version with better resolution, etc if you pay. Used it a lot when my kid was studying in Europe last year. Useful tool.

We use it in my company for instant messaging, video conferencing, and of course for IP telephony. Works fine.

Brother is a huge fan of this(always asking me to get it going)

Last time at his house while we were in their sitting room we heard this knocking at the door followed by this funny ring tone??????????

Sister-law said I bet that's Jane. She got up and instead of going to the door she went down the hall.
She came back and said would you two(wife and I) like to meet my sister from China?(never met her)

We said sure. Went down the hall :?: and on this 26" flat panel was her sister(in China) it was like she was right there in person. She said " boy you two are a sharp looking couple)  Nice to meet you two.
Of course I said" you look great yourself" Nice also to meet you as well!
Only thing there is about a 1/2 second delay,so when they say somthing dont immediately reply because they might not be done yet! But I think it was all free!

Coolest thing ever!

Works very well.. i use it to talk to my parents in Europe. A fast internet connection allows you to run higher (better) video quality. And best of all... Free!

If you buy some Skype credit you can use it to call land lines and mobiles worldwide from Skype at pretty cheap rates. For example, US to UK for $0.021/minute.

I use the free version and as long as the other party is also using Skype, all your calls are free! Free is great. With cable modems on both ends, the lag between Colorado and New Jersey is hardly noticeable. I'm surprised that they don't charge you for it as it's a free long distance call and free video conferencing all in one.
