IIRC, didn't those conversions eventually lead to the .224 Harvey Kay-Chuck and then to the .22 Remington Jet?

Maybe it's a good thing my lottery numbers didn't hit last night...

My ole man had a FACTORY conversion very similar to that back in the 1960s. It was a lousy gun in part because the .22 LR barrel would not stabilize the heavier .22 Hornet bullets, (keyholed or missed a pizza box at 25 feet with some loads) the cases had to be very carefully degreased and chambers alcohol swabbed and STILL it'd lock up at worst and at best ya had to carry a small brass hammer and a dowel to drive empties out (I still use that hammer today).

IT WAS LOUD beyond belief. Dad always said it was the loudest gun he ever shot (and he shot lots of hot .357 and .44 mag, light for caliber loads run very hot). He eventually GAVE IT AWAY, including a superb set of handmade, hand rubbed "rotten stone finish" cherry grips he made for it.

Instead of a full length Hornet, I would imagine that this S&W is likely chambered for the .224 Harvey Kay Chuk, Jr., a shortened, standard Hornet. The standard Kay Chuk (non-Jr.) was a shortened K-Hornet. The shortened Harvey cartidges were created just for the shorter K frame S&W, since the Colt SAA would accept the full length Hornet round.
