OT: Our little lady will be 18 in May.... update

Post by J Miller »

Our oldest lady cat, Taffie Marie Miller will be 18 years old May 2nd.
Taffie Marie Miller.JPG
We've never had a kitty live this long. She was born in the closet of our bed room in Phoenix. She had three sisters and two brothers. From what we know, she's outlived them all.

Besides a couple bags of treats and goodies I wonder if we could make a cat nip cake?

Wow!

Oldest cat I ever had was sixteen when he got an infection from another fight with something.

My black lab just turned 16 on Valentine's day. She sleeps alot and has a few "accidents"
but is doing pretty well.

Happy early b-day to the puddy tat!

She does look good for her age. I've had four that went over twenty. One reached 24.

That's awesome Joe. Longest I've ever heard a domesticated cat living was 21 years, and that was a Siamese. They tend to live a bit longer than other breeds.

Joe,

She reminds me of a tom we had when I was a kid 45 years ago. She looks ready go to hunting! I had no idea cats live that long.

Well, that pic of Taffie is about a year or so old. She's beginning to show her age and does sleep more than the others. I've told wifie she needs a trip to the vet for a check up. Old kitties are just like old people, sometimes they just need a tune up.

We had one that went to 19 yrs - he raised both our kids, but succumed to kidney failure in 2005. He's still missed although we now have another kitty. Taffie looks to be a fine kitty and with a tune-up, as you say, I'm sure she's good to go for a few more years.

Pretty markings.

It seems as though our female cats were longer-lived than our toms, generally.

Cats always seem to have that "are you really that #!$?*@&# dumb?" look.

This is our buddy, Moose. He's only 3, but he already runs things. It's good to be a cat staffperson!

Taffy had a vet visit today. The vet was amazed at how good she looked for being almost 18 years old. She weighed in at 8 pounds 6 ounces. Blood tests came back mostly good although her thyroid was a bit low and it looks like she's got early symptoms of renal failure. We got her on some special ( that means expensive ) wet cat food for kidney ailments and they want to to a weekly intravenous thing to help her hydration and flush out the old kidneys. They said they can do it, or we could. Wifie said maybe we should let them teach us. I said, OK, they can teach us, but I'd rather pay them the bucks and let them do it. We'll see how that goes.
The only other things is an ear infection, got meds for that, and a couple teeth that don't look so good.

So, I was right, she needed a bit of attention. But considering her age, I guess she's doing better than expected.
