From the Internet: "Preikestolen or Preacher's Pulpit/Pulpit Rock is a massive cliff 604 metres above Lysefjorden, opposite the Kjerag plateau, in Forsand, Norway. The top of the cliff is approximately 25 by 25 metres, square and almost flat, and is a famous tourist attraction."

The sad thing is, nowadays, I see a photo like that and I just assume it's photoshopped. :(

I'd stop at that first rather large CRACK  in the rock, even though logic says my puny 200 lbs wouldn't likely be THE event to topple the zillion-ton rock.

Climbing is too much like work. I'd rather rappel down instead.

I see that and I'm reminded of Wile E. Coyote jumping up and down on the cliff to wipe out the Roadrunner.
The seemingly secure part falls and poor Wile E. again plunges to his demise. The Roadrunner left to
defy gravity.
I didn't fail the test, I just found 100 ways to do it wrong.

At 604 meters, or approximately 1850 feet, its height is easily enough for a good parachute jump. Looks and sounds like a great time. There are very few things to compare with being in a parachute harness in the open air, but being there for the birth of your kids sure does.

There's a cliff on the Aran Islands off Ireland with an even better view and no "will it break off?" question.....

It's the center of a Bronze Age (occupied up through viking times) fortress on the island. I'll post a pic one of these days.

Nice 1/2 mile or so walk up to appreciate the flight in and drive there to get to the walk......

My wifes family is from the Aran Islands though we never went there. We visited Ireland for our honeymoon but ran out of time.

It looks like a neat destination to me...very cool.

Yosemite has some similar "views." the Half Dome diving board comes to mind. That'll get your heart racing.

Its in Norway. It is a heck of hike back to it as I remember. I did not know what I agreed to when I said I would go but the view is quite nice. One advantage of working for an oil company is the travel. I regret not duplicating this photograph on my own. I tend to shoot the shots. Also it was windy when I was there so the edge was definitely "verboten".
