OT - Good week playing with guns USMC style

Post by JReed »

Well had a great week. I am curently going threw the Combat Marksmanship Coaches course. This week was classroom with practicle excersise in rifle and pistol handeling. We had 3 tests this week Rifle Handeling practicle, Writen Rifle Marksmanship, and the Pistol Handeling practicle. I passed all three with room to spare :D .

You know I have been shooting since I was a kid so my base knowledg was alright. But you learn alot when you go threw a course.

Next week we take the writen pistol test and shoot and qualify with the M16A2 and the M9 pistol. I need to shoot a 305 out of 400 or better with the pistol and a 210 out of 260 or better to pass the course. After the course is over we roll in to the Base Matches For a total of 2 weeks of shooting :D

Have fun with that JR,

I spent 6 months as a PMI/CMC/ then a CMT.

Those were fun duties to say the least. I just thanked the heavens when I didn't have to police the range anymore, and was able to take everything indoors under the air conditioner.

Lejeune and P.I during the summer/early fall aren't the most enjoyable places to live.

At least you're doing some shooting.

Jeremy,

Sounds like a lot of fun work.

I remember some 30 years ago now my cousin joined the Marines. When he'd come home on leave we'd head up into the mountains and hike, explore, camp and shoot.
He told me that the Marines had not trained him how to shoot handguns. He'd had rifles since long before he joined, and of course they trained him with the M-16s, but no hand guns.
So I gave him as much hand gun training as I could.

I'm glad to hear that things are changing.

Joe

Joe for the most part only officers and senior enlisted carry pistols. most Marines never get a chance to shoot them. I am high enough on the food chain that I carry a M9. Part of the coaches course is qualing with the pistol you cant teach others if you cant do it your self.

JR,

I remember in 1990 or 1991 on Paris Island, I was a PMI at the time.
doing qual day for the recruits.

It was 30deg, 30mph gusts, and raining.

The RO let it ride and we were out there all day.

Out of about 200 recruits only 15 passed.

Needless to say, there were a lot of ticked off individuals in the ROs office.

I definitely don't miss those days.

I remember stuff like that: only it was Navy style. "All Rifle/Pistol Team members muster on the Quarterdeck." Even though our team regularly got beat by just about everybody, we enjoyed ourselves! (I don't recall a last place finish, but never higher than 6th or 7th, IIRC. Most of our matches included many Law Enforcement teams also.

Bring your laptop and I will give you all the books from the course.

Last time I was on the range firing I was on the morning relay and it was 24 degrees had to use pocket warmers just to thaw out my trigger finger between shots and that was here on Pendleton  . I ended up shooting sharpshooter  .

One of the coldest places I have ever been was Winter at Fort Irwin, CA...right on that Desert. That place nearly killed me! Sounds like fun Jeremy. Enjoy every moment.

C Cash I know what you mean I was out in 29 Palms for almost 4 years it gets darn cold in the high desert.

Tutt I have the books on my tumb drive. They deal with the M16 and the M9 but the Basics are the Basics. They dont cover manuale of arms but they do cover the by the book principles of rifle and pistol marksmanship.

Jeremy -

Do you need to pinch your nose a bit, having to fire the M9? After all, you shoot a .45 Colt - the 9mm has got to feel wimpy!!!
