Used feeler gauge strip to lighten trigger pull on 1886.
Did anyone copy that thread on how to lighten a trigger by super gluing a strip on feeler gauge on the hammer?

After careful reflection, I'm going to guess that you're joking?Tycer wrote:Did anyone copy that thread on how to lighten a trigger by super gluing a strip on feeler gauge on the hammer?
No.

I was baiting ya TT
Someone had cut a thin strip of the proper thickness feeler gauge and attached it to the hammer just in front of the sear notch. It worked perfectly to set trigger pull. They had done it as a temporary try to determine the perfect sear notch depth. Apparently it worked so well and the glue never released that they left it.
In the article they had said what the perfect sear notch depth was. I'd like to give it a try on my 1886 before I attempt stoning the hammer

Win 1886 Trigger Pull ?TEMPORARY FIX?
The strip I've settled on is .013" x .040" x ~hammer width. Super Glued it to the flat on the hammer just in front of the sear notch. The strip is narrow enough to allow the sear to glide into the notch - it is slightly narrower than the flat of the hammer.
I cut it off a feeler gauge with a Dremel. I first tried snips, but they curled the strip.
I worked up from .006" thickness.
Trigger pull is similar to my Win 670. I do not know how to judge pull weight, but it is not even close to Yancey's Contender or a double-set trigger.
I also shaped the sear and the hammer to make a half cock notch. I used a hammer and sear from a Win 94 as a general shape guide.

I remember reading your posts on that. Nicely done. Good pics.
I went the cheap route and cut 3 coils off the spring, de-tensioned the trigger return spring, and cut the lower leg off the hammer spring guide rod.

I got my parts from Midwest Gun Works.kimwcook wrote:I've looked at my normal sources for parts, Numrich, Wisner's, etc.. and I can't find the Browning hammer and sear to replace my rebounding hammer and sear.
Mike D. where'd you get yours if you don't mind my asking? Does anyone else have a source?

There is also a Canadian firm, Western Gun Parts Ltd, that sells Browning and Winchester parts. I just got my PG lever from them a few days ago.
