I had a nice scope, but couldn't find a rifle to mount it on

Post by jdad »

I've been sitting on a 16x Redfield 3200, for about 6-8 months. It was one of those "great" deals that you don't pass up. I've spent the last 6-8 months trying to find something affordable to mount it on.

Today, at our monthly collector meeting, I saw this Stevens 414 Armory (22lr) sitting with a great price, factory scope blocks, and correct Lyman peep. The photos just don't do justice to the case coloring or wood grain. I actually hemmed and hawed about an hour before picking it up. I can't believe all the other people handling it just put it back down. I guess it was my turn at a reaaaallly good deal.

All I had to do was take the Lyman bridge off and screw the scope on.

That is one slick looking set up. And, you can shoot it all day everyday without recoil and not alot of money. I do love .22's, and rifles like this are just a joy to behold.

Nice set up. Here I was hoping you had decided to put the scope in the "pay it forward" classifieds or sell it really cheap. I need one for my Rem 513T. I have a problem paying more than twice as much for a scope as I gave for the rifle.

Like you, I had been looking for a 22LR Martini. Sellers are asking ridiculous prices for "shooter" grade Martini's that they think are "collector" grade. I'm real happy with this rifle.

I have this mounted on my office wall. It was made from an original SEP ad, from the 1920's.

It will be interesting to see how a 16X scope works on a 22LR chambered rifle.
Will parallax be a factor?

It sure looks neat. :!:

your going to love that gun, I have 2 of them, 1 22LR and 1 is 22 short, neither of them came from the factory D & Td for the scope blocks, my 22 LR with a 10x Lyman STS will run right with my winchester 52B with 20x STS

The scope is from the 1970's and has an AO.

That scope is adjustable for parallax, but with the degree of precision the 16x will enable, as well as the distance it will allow one to see 'varmints', TRAJECTORY will be an 'issue' with a .22 LR. However, that is part of what makes shooting fun, and I'm sure he'll quickly know that at 115 yards the drop is 2-7/8" vs. a zero at 75 yards with Ely 39 grain match ammo, or whatever. VERY COOL...!
